barcode, which the BBC said was one of the fifty things that \u2018made the global economy\u2019,\u00a0<strong>GS1 is now the benchmark for the identification of products<\/strong>\u00a0along the supply chain.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e6b654c e-con-full e-flex elementor-invisible e-con #999999;\">1<\/span><\/sup><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>However, this tool is no longer adequate due to new and growing market needs, such as:<\/p><ul><li>request for\u00a0<strong>more information<\/strong>\u00a0in terms interaction<\/strong>\u00a0between product and consumer\u00a0<\/li><li><b>growing regulatory requirements <\/b>at the European level (Digital Product Passport)<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p>For these reasons, GS1 has set itself the goal of migrating to 2D barcodes and GS1 Digital Link by 2027.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div \/><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1669\">Until 2027, it will be possible to pair the 1D barcode (<b>EAN-13<\/b>) with a <b>GS1 QR Code or a GS1 DataMatrix<\/b>. After that, only one of the three symbologies should be present on the product, the most suitable one.<\/p><p data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1669\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1671\" data-end=\"1855\">By the \u201cSunrise 2027\u201d date, POS systems must be able to read 2D codes. EAN\/UPC codes will remain valid, and full transition to 2D will occur when at least 90% of POS systems are ready.<\/p><p data-start=\"1671\" data-end=\"1855\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"2072\">The transition is already underway: <b>the new standard is being tested in 48 countries representing 88% of global GDP<\/b>, with major retailers such as Walmart, Carrefour, and Woolworths already engaged in pilot programs.<\/p><p data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"2072\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"2074\" data-end=\"2391\">Both GS1 QR Codes and GS1 DataMatrix allow for <b>much more data than current 1D barcodes<\/b> (GTIN, expiration date, batch number, links to web pages with ingredient and allergen information, product images and videos, reviews, etc.). materials, environmental impact, repair instructions, and recyclability, accessible to all stakeholders in the supply chain.<br \/><br \/><\/p><p data-start=\"3777\" data-end=\"4045\">GS1 Digital Link is the standard <b>recommended by GS1 to implement the DPP<\/b>: a single QR code compliant with the standard can simultaneously support supply chain needs, consumer information, and regulatory
